In response to the coronavirus pandemic, The Centennial Conference has canceled all college fall sports.In the Susquehanna Valley, this will affect Franklin and Marshall, Dickinson and Gettysburg. The Centennial Conference has decided to suspend all inter-collegiate competitions for the fall semester.The organization specifically states that football will not be played in the fall.The Presidents Council of the Conference says it will re-evaluate this decision by the end of September. The Conference says it will also explore the possibility of shifting certain fall sports, including football, to the spring. “The health and welfare of our student-athletes and campus communities remain our greatest priority and as a result the conference has made the very difficult decision to suspend fall sports competition. It is, however, important for the conference to attempt to provide all our programs an opportunity to compete in some fashion during the upcoming year. We will continue to evaluate the institutional programming we have implemented, and keep abreast of all the information provided by the CDC, state, and local health organizations to permit us to make an informed decision concerning the future of athletics competition for all our programs. It is heart wrenching to see the emotional impact this decision will have on our student-athletes. I can only hope we are able to find a way to permit competitive athletic competition to be part of their 2020-21 college experience,” Director of Athletics Joel Quattrone said in a statement.
